I have managed several businesses and have had customers coming in our front door and deliveries in our docks While I dealt with a customer complaint I invited my complaint over to another part of the store away from other customers while I delicate my staff to our arriving customers while delivery is being brought in.

I would go and talk to the customer and make sure that it was indeed on-time and that if they had a preference for deliveries that I would certainly make sure it was at a specific door or area the next time they had a package delivered. I believe listening to an individual and not overreacting helps to subdue the problem/anger.
