41⟩ What is haul?

An unceremonious dumping out of your bag of new beauty products followed by a show-and-tell. Some beauty vloggers film this for their audiences, while the rest of us do it just for fun.

42⟩ Can you tell us how many hours a week do you expect?

She needs to know your expectations. She wants someone with unlimited availability, in a perfect world. Not every salon considers 40 hours to be full time. There are some franchises that consider 30 hours full time. I know of one that doesn't want a stylist on the floor over 7 hours in a shift to keep them from burnout.

If you absolutely need full time let her know this. Or maybe you can make do with 20 hours a week until you can work your way into full time.

But if you only want 20 hours a week it is important you are up front with her. She has to consider hours to make out her schedule. Be truthful with what you need.

43⟩ Can you explain what was the best job you ever had? Why?

She is wanting to know if what you really enjoy doing is something you will enjoy doing in the salon. If you loved being a number cruncher and sitting at a desk all day you probably won't like being a creative, stand on your feet all day hairdresser. In her eyes, maybe you are not the best suited person for her open chair.

However, if you worked at PetSmart and enjoyed running around the store and helping customers with their beloved pets the interviewer could see how those activities could easily translate into beauty career activities.

45⟩ Tell us do you have any thoughts on building clientele?

If you are a brand new stylist starting your beauty career the manager does not expect you to come with a clientele. However, if you are in a private salon you will be responsible for building your clientele. I hope you knew this already.

Franchise salons are mostly about walk-ins. That doesn't mean you won't have clientele. You will. A client can "request" any stylist they like. As you continue to work there you continue to gather clients that request you. That is your clientele.

46⟩ What are layers?

Every cut falls under three categories: layered, one-length, or a combination of both, says celebrity hairstylist Dwayne Ross. Layers help lessen density and create movement. One-length cuts, on the other hand, add weight. To avoid confusion and hair mishaps, double-check with your stylist. Regardless of what terminology the stylist is using, Ross recommends always asking, "Will this technique create layers or remove them?"

47⟩ What is clarifier?

A clarifying shampoo is slightly stronger than an everyday shampoo and is designed to remove products, hard water or chlorine residue that have built-up over time. These types of shampoos usually have a higher pH level and therefore should not be used regularly as they may dry out the hair and scalp.

48⟩ What is adrenal?

The adrenal glands are comprised of two parts -- the cortex and medulla -- that produce hormones which regulate body functions. The medulla, or inner part of the adrenal glands, produces the hormones norepinephrine and epinephrine, which regulate the 'fight or flight' response in the body, the body's reaction to stressful events. The cortex, the outer portion of the adrenal glands, produces several hormones that affect blood pressure and blood sugar levels, growth, as well as some sexual characteristics.

49⟩ What is weight Line?

Like the name implies, this is the area in a cut that holds the most weight. Penna uses a blunt or bob cut as an example. "The weight line is at the end of the hair. But in a long layered cut, the weight line is the longest layer." If you feel that your weight line is too heavy, Penna suggests asking your stylist to blend it in with thinning shears. Another way to soften bluntness is to use "point cutting," a snipping technique that lops the ends at an angle to create a textured or feathered edge.

50⟩ Explain me what did you like least about your last job as Beauty Parlor Cleaner?

Oh, this is a tricky one. It's a setup. It is very easy to fall into this snare. People just wait for an opening to vent. But you now know ahead of time NOT TO DO THIS.

Instead of coming back with, "OH, I really hated my boss. He was such a pig!" you want to go to a task that is harmless to what you are trying to achieve. If you worked at Starbucks you had to clean, you had very busy times, it could be stressful, people complained, you may have had a bad co-worker, etc. But if you point any of this out in your interview it will look like a negative for YOU.

51⟩ Tell us what is the most memorable job you've done?

Whenever I work with a celebrity, it's always very special. I recently spent the day with Kendall Jenner on an Estée Lauder shoot and got to experience first-hand, the "Kendall Jenner Effect." It's great to be with a celebrity who is surrounded by so much positive light.

53⟩ What means wedge Haircut?

While a graduated cut requires a maximum angle of 90 degrees, a wedge haircut needs only 45. "The hair at the nape of the neck is cut the shortest, with layers radiating out as they reach the crown of the head," adds Penna. With that, the ends are cut at multiple angles (versus a straight blunt edge) to boost volume and movement.

56⟩ Tell us what are your goals for the future as Beauty Parlor Cleaner?

A manager would like to see that you have thought about your future and what direction your beauty career is headed.

The only wrong answer here would be "I don't know." However, she is looking for your professional goals rather than your personal goals.

If you want to someday own a salon talk about the path you intend to take. Let her know that you desire to be in management to gain the experience.

58⟩ Tell us how do you help clients choose the best hair style?

I work with clients to find out what look they are going for. If they are looking for a classic look, we will explore statement up-do or if they are looking to stand out, we will talk large wavy curls. I ask clients about the event or occasion they are styling for and we work from there.

59⟩ Explain me a difficult work situation and how you handled it?

A toddler got sick in the aisle of PetSmart. The child was throwing up and crying and the mother was flustered. The mother was concerned for her child but embarrassed by the situation. I ran and got a lot of paper towels to immediately cover up the mess. I also brought a clean, damp towel for the mom to clean the baby. I stayed with them and helped mom get her child and her bag to the car easily. I then cleaned up the mess as quickly as possible. She later called the store and told my manager that she appreciated how I had helped her to her car with her sick baby and that she posted it on Facebook so others would know we had great customer service at our store.

60⟩ Cutting Line?

This is a line that stylists determine for a particular hairstyle, and its angle corresponds with how close or far apart the layers will look. "For example, when a stylist wants to create a layered look, he will use a vertical cutting line."
